Conceptual approach

To mitigate the impact of the noise from the highway and to provide prominence and views for the guestrooms, the design separated the key components of the hotel, notably the public areas, guestrooms and the banquet hall. Taking advantage of the sloping site, the banquet hall was positioned at the front of the site to provide a visual barrier and barrier against traffic noise. An arrival courtyard was formed between the public spaces and the banquet hall offering a degree of peace and sanctuary from the outside world. The guestrooms were separated and elevated above the public floors and courtyard in angle, strong form thereby maximising the potential views for the guests and forming a landmark for a development not blessed with the most prominent of street frontages.
